Härnösand

A moving company in Härnösand that knows the streets, the lanes and the stairs

Härnösand sits just over 50 km north of our address in Sundsvall, roughly 45 minutes on the E4. We handle both the move and the move-out cleaning here, and we account for what actually costs time in a town split between an island and the mainland: where the van is allowed to stand, how far things have to be carried, and what the stairwell in an old wooden house looks like. The price is fixed and agreed before we load, and the RUT deduction comes straight off the invoice.

What we bring to the job

A fixed price agreed before we load – RUT deducted straight off the invoice.
Alternate-date parking at night, 1 Oct–31 May, 02:00–09:00 – we move the van in time.
Used to the wooden houses in Östanbäcken – narrow street, own stairs, no lift.
One booking for both the carrying and the cleaning – the home is handed over inspection-ready.
The Hemsön ferry must be ordered after 18:30 – we call in good time.

Östanbäcken and the wooden houses – the move is decided in the stairwell, not on the street

Östanbäcken is the oldest district in Härnösand and consists largely of wooden houses from the 1700s and 1800s. Many are old log frames that were clad with panelling during the 19th century, and the oldest can be dated to the years after the town fire of 1727. Östanbäcksgatan still follows its original course along the old shoreline — which is why it winds rather than running straight like the grid-planned town further in. The district counts as one of Sweden's best preserved historic quarters inside a town centre, and you notice it the moment a fridge has to come out. For us that means two things. The van rarely reaches the door, and when it does it is in everyone else's way. So we include the carrying distance in the quote instead of discovering it on the day: where we can stand, how far things have to be carried, and whether we should shuttle the last stretch with a smaller vehicle. The second thing is the stairs. The lift requirement in the building regulations bites only on new construction, and buildings from before 1978 can be exempted even when they are altered, so a lift is rare in this part of town. What governs how a sofa gets out is the measurements instead: the turn of the staircase, the width of the door leaf, and a wooden threshold that will not take the weight of something set down on it. We measure in advance, lift doors off their hinges where needed, and protect steps and mouldings. A house that has stood for two hundred years does not take the same handling as a stairwell from the nineties. The same applies in reverse. Moving from a flat into a cottage here, things rarely all fit at once, and storage is often what saves the moving day itself.

The parking rules in the centre – what actually stops a moving van

Since Monday 2 February 2026, parking charges apply in parts of central Härnösand. In the central core it is 10 kronor an hour; at Mellanholmen and the swimming-hall car park, 5 kronor. The first two hours are free in every zone — but only if the parking is registered in the Parkster app. If it isn't registered, it isn't free; it's unpaid. In winter, alternate-date parking also applies across the built-up area of Härnösand, every night between 02:00 and 09:00 from 1 October to 31 May. Between 1 June and 30 September it is lifted entirely. The rule exists so that one side of the street is always clear for ploughing and sweeping. It bites on moves that run into the evening: a fully loaded van left on the wrong side after two in the morning is not something you want added to a day that is already long. The central town is also covered by a general parking ban as an area regulation, and the municipality has a couple of hundred local traffic ordinances in total. We don't read them on site. We decide in advance where the van goes, how long we need it there and who registers it, then keep the loading inside that window. If the address can't be solved with ordinary spaces, we say so in the quote, before you have booked a day that won't work. If we still get it wrong, that is our problem, not yours — the fixed price stays fixed.

Härnön, the Nybron bridge and the ferry to Hemsön

Härnösand lies on the island of Härnön and on the mainland, and it is the bridges that hold the town together. The Nybron bridge across the sound opens for shipping and is one of the town's most important routes — the way into the centre from the west. The new swing bridge was inaugurated in 2026 after around two years of work. Härnösand is one of the few places in the country where you can sail straight through a town and pass two opening bridges, Nybron and Västra kanalbron. Good to know, and worth thinking through before booking a slot with a heavy vehicle. On Härnön, Vårdkasberget rises 175 metres above sea level, with a road all the way to the top. Addresses on those slopes mean steep and often narrow driveways. In summer it is rarely worth mentioning; in February it is a job in its own right. We ask about gradient and surface while we are still pricing the work, so the right vehicle turns up at the right address. If the move goes to or from Hemsön, it goes by the Hemsöleden ferry — a free car ferry between Strinningen and Hemsön, a 540-metre crossing that takes four minutes. After 18:30 it no longer runs to a timetable and has to be ordered on 0771-65 65 65 at least ten minutes before the departure you want. That single detail decides whether an evening move finishes at seven or sits waiting at the ferry berth. If the move instead continues north on the E4, we cross the Höga Kusten bridge, which the Swedish Transport Administration can close outright when it really blows. That is not something we want to discover on moving day, so we read the forecast in the days before and would sooner move the date than stand with a loaded rig in front of a closed bridge. The price does not change because of it.

Weather, move-out cleaning and the inspection

The coastal highlands of Ångermanland receive over 800 millimetres of precipitation a year and are among the wettest areas along the whole east coast. Härnösand also holds Sweden's June rainfall record: 187.3 millimetres on 18 June 1908. That tells you something about what a moving day here can serve up. And it is the rain rather than the snow that catches people out: furniture left standing ten minutes on a loading bay in that weather stays wet for days. In practice that means we use a covered van, wrap whatever cannot take damp, and clear the stretch between the door and the van before the lifting starts. Wet furniture and a dirtied stairwell are two separate bills, and both are avoidable. The move-out cleaning ties into this. We are happy to take the move and the cleaning as one job. When the same company owns both, there is no argument about who caused the mark in the hallway, and the cleaning can start when the last box is out rather than the following day. Move-out cleaning starts at 895 kronor after RUT, and if you want to hand back a properly gone-over home there is Flyttstäd Plus from 1,495 kronor after RUT. In wooden houses with old glazing-bar windows, window cleaning is often what makes the biggest difference at the inspection. Putty lines and glazing bars show up the moment light falls across them at an angle — and that is what an inspector looks at before looking at the kitchen cupboards.

Something else you want to know before you book? Call us — you will speak to someone who does the work.

  • A one- or two-room flat usually lands at roughly 2,000–5,000 kronor for the move itself; a house or four rooms and up at roughly 6,000–15,000 kronor. Billed by the hour instead, a crewed van sits somewhere between 500 and 900 kronor for each hour worked. We would rather give you a fixed price: then you know the figure before we arrive, and the carrying distance in Östanbäcken or a steep driveway on Härnön is already in it.

  • We decide the spot before moving day. In the central core parking costs 10 kronor an hour and at Mellanholmen 5 kronor, with two free hours if the vehicle is registered in Parkster — which we handle. From 1 October to 31 May there is also alternate-date parking at night between 02:00 and 09:00, and the central town is covered by a general parking ban as an area regulation. If the address can't be solved with ordinary spaces, we tell you in the quote.

  • Yes, and that is usually how it works best. The cleaning starts when the last box is out, instead of you booking a second company for the next day and hoping the schedules meet. We work with two levels — starting figures of 895 and 1,495 kronor after RUT — and set the final sum by the size of the home. We can take the window cleaning in the same visit, which tends to pay off in older wooden houses with glazing-bar windows.

  • Yes. To Hemsön we use the Hemsöleden ferry from Strinningen — a four-minute crossing, though after 18:30 the departure has to be ordered by phone at least ten minutes ahead, which we take care of. If the house sits on a gravel road, or one looked after by a road association, mention it while we are pricing the job. During the spring thaw the permitted weight can be capped temporarily, and it is better to know that in advance than to turn round halfway up.
