Removal company in Örnsköldsvik – the drive is included in the fixed price

Örnsköldsvik is the longest of our regular runs: just over 150 kilometres up the E4 from Sundsvall, roughly two hours in normal conditions. That doesn't make the job harder, but it does make the planning matter more – we start earlier, put the move and the move-out cleaning in the same trip, and build the drive into the quote. You get a fixed price before the first box is loaded, and the RUT deduction is taken straight off the invoice.

What we bring to the job

Just over 150 km each way – the drive is inside the fixed price, not added afterwards.
The wind at the High Coast Bridge is checked the day before – a new date beats a halt on the E4.
Date parking applies 02:00–08:00 all year in four zones – we move the van before two.
Steep drives up on Varvsberget: we assess access while we are still pricing the job.
Move and move-out cleaning in one trip, so you don't pay for two journeys up here.

150-plus kilometres each way – what that does to the planning

The E4 north measures just over 150 kilometres from our door in Sundsvall up to Örnsköldsvik, roughly two hours in normal conditions. There and back is therefore just over 300 kilometres in a single day. We say that plainly, because it affects two things: when we start and what the move costs. We either load the van the evening before or drive up early, so the carrying begins in the morning rather than when the afternoon is already gone. The drive is priced in when we send the quote – you get a fixed price for the whole job, not an hourly rate that grows with the distance. The High Coast Bridge sits on the route. The Swedish Transport Administration closes it when gusts reach around thirty metres per second, and the closure is aimed above all at tall vehicles with a large flank — ours is one. The way round then runs to more than sixty kilometres for heavy traffic, which swallows the whole day. We check the wind the day before, and if it picks up we put the job on the next day rather than gamble with your belongings on the back. The fixed price stays as agreed either way. Because the journey is long, we try to do everything in one trip. If the old home needs move-out cleaning we do it the same day as the carrying, so you are not paying for us to drive up here twice. The same goes for anything that needs to go into storage on the way: tell us early and we plan the loading order around it, instead of reshuffling on site.

Date parking 02:00–08:00, and the pedestrian stretch of Storgatan

Örnsköldsvik has date parking all year round, from 02:00 to 08:00, in four zones: Västra, Östra, Norra and Södra. The rule is simple once you turn it the right way up: on an even date the van may not stand on the side with even house numbers, on an odd date not on the odd side. During the day it makes no difference which side the van is on, as long as parking is otherwise permitted – and that is where most moves happen. What catches people out is evening loading and the van left overnight. The council also points out that at some month ends you get two odd dates in a row; park on autopilot and the van is on the wrong side the second night. We move it before two. Central addresses have one more thing to account for: Storgatan is a pedestrian street between the central squares. If you live along that stretch there is a carry involved, so we bring longer floor runners and more box trolleys than we would for a house. Tell us at the quote stage where the nearest possible standing spot is – a courtyard, a loading bay on a side street, a garage – and we build the carrying distance into the price instead of discovering it on the day. In Domsjö, Sund, Gullänget and Svedjeholmen access is usually easier, but in the apartment blocks the loading route often runs round the courtyard side. Door code, lift or no lift, and where a container might be standing – those are the three things we want to know before we staff the job.

The valley between Åsberget and Varvsberget

The town sits in a valley behind the bay, wedged between the two town hills Åsberget and Varvsberget. The centre is eighteen metres above sea level, while the newer housing up on Varvsberget is closer to a hundred metres up, with views over the town, the harbour and the sea. That view costs you one thing on moving day: the driveway. Steep approaches are the rule rather than the exception up on the heights, and a fully loaded removal van does not simply reverse up an icy drive. So we look at access while we are still pricing the job. Sometimes the answer is that the van stays down at the road and we shuttle the last stretch with a smaller vehicle – cheaper than a van that gets stuck. Winter is the same question seen from the other side. Eighty metres of height difference inside one town means the centre can be bare ground while the driveway up on Varvsberget is sheet ice, and the plough rarely gets there first. So we spend half an hour on snow and ice before the lifting starts, and roll out runners inside the door so meltwater does not ruin the floor you are about to have inspected. Most residential areas are five to ten minutes from the centre by car: Arnäsvall, Högland, Järved, Bonäset, Hörnett, Domsjö, Sund, Svedjeholmen, Gullänget, Själevad and Kroksta. Domsjö and Sund, south of the centre, are a mix of houses and apartment blocks, which in practice means two moves on the same street can look completely different – and be priced differently.

Husum, Bjästa, Bredbyn – and the last stretch of road

Örnsköldsvik municipality is large, and a good share of the jobs sit outside the town itself: Husum, Bjästa, Köpmanholmen, Bredbyn and Sidensjö. Out there it is rarely the stairwell that decides how the move goes, but the last few kilometres up to the house. On private and gravel roads the road keeper can temporarily lower the permitted gross weight during the spring thaw, often to twelve or four tonnes, or close the road altogether. A loaded van weighs more than that. If you know your road tends to get signed off in spring, include who looks after it when you get in touch — then we have time to check the limit and plan in a smaller vehicle or a transfer, rather than meeting the sign on moving day. A lot of moves here are tied to work. The Metsä Board mill in Husum, the Hägglunds works and the Domsjö industrial area bring people in from elsewhere, which gives us two jobs we do often: the arrival move, where the furniture comes up from the south and needs storing until the flat is free, and the office move that has to be running again by Monday morning. Both are planned backwards from the day you have to be finished, not forwards from the day we happen to be free. If things are going out into the archipelago – to Ulvön or Trysunda, for instance – there is boat transport involved, on timetables we do not control. Say so early and we build the waiting time and the transfer into the fixed price instead of adding it afterwards.

Something else you want to know before you book? Call us — you will speak to someone who does the work.

  • Yes, the longer drive shows up in the price – we won't pretend otherwise. The difference is that you see the whole sum before we start. The price is set by volume, floor level, carrying distance and distance travelled, and the RUT deduction of 50 percent of the labour cost comes straight off the invoice (the ceiling is SEK 75,000 per person per year, shared with ROT).

  • Earlier than for a move inside Sundsvall. A job in Örnsköldsvik ties up a van and a crew for a full day, so month ends and the summer weeks fill up first. Get in touch as soon as you know the date – we reply within 24 hours and can hold a provisional day while you wait for the contract.

  • We follow the wind forecast the day before. If the Transport Administration closes the bridge there is only one way round, more than sixty kilometres of it for heavy vehicles, and the schedule then holds for neither loading nor unloading. We call you as soon as we know and put the job on the nearest day that works. The sum is the one we agreed.

  • Yes, and at this distance it is almost always the sensible choice. The same company does the carrying and the move-out cleaning, the cleaners start in the rooms that were emptied first, and you get the RUT deduction on both parts. If the cleaning picks up a remark at the inspection, we drive up again and deal with it at no extra cost.
