Long-distance moving from Sundsvall
Whether you are heading south to Stockholm or north to Umeå, we plan the move as three separate stages: loading day, driving day and unloading day. You get a fixed price once we have gone through the volume, the RUT deduction is taken straight off the invoice, and bridge tolls, congestion charges and fuel are already inside the price. Your belongings are insured the whole way, and if your dates do not line up we can store them in between.
What you actually get
Everything below is included in the fixed price. Anything extra is agreed with you before we do it — never after.
Free quoteLoading day, driving day, unloading day
A move inside Sundsvall is a single shift. A move to Stockholm or Umeå is three stages that follow one another, which is why we plan it backwards from the day you get your keys. We start by going through your belongings, usually over video or from photos you send us. That gives us the volume in cubic metres, and the volume decides which van goes and how many of us are needed. On loading day the van is packed tightly and in the right order — whatever has to come off first goes on last. Everything is labelled by room and we write a list of what goes on board, so both you and we know what is in the van. The driving day is time of its own in the plan. Sundsvall to Stockholm is 377 kilometres and a good four hours of pure driving, with neither loading nor unloading counted. We build the route around the driving and rest-time rules rather than forcing everything into one day. On longer runs, such as Gothenburg, an overnight stay for the crew is priced in from the start. Unloading day is booked against your access time, not against our departure. If you get the keys at twelve, the van is there at twelve. If we are carrying into an address in central Stockholm there is also a ban on driving vehicles over 4.25 tonnes on city streets between 22:00 and 06:00 — unloading has to happen in daylight hours, and that shapes the whole day. You get the schedule in writing before we drive. If your access date moves, we move the unloading day, not the price.
The routes we drive most often
Sundsvall is a town people pass through. Most of the long moves we drive head south towards the Stockholm region or north towards Umeå, and each route has its own conditions. Stockholm is 377 kilometres and a good four hours on the E4. In practice it is a two-day move: loading one day, driving and unloading the next. The inner city has a class 1 low-emission zone for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, so we check that the van going down meets the requirements before we book. Congestion charges apply Monday to Friday between 06:00 and 18:29 and are included in our price. If a temporary work-site parking permit is needed, the City of Stockholm has a ten-day processing time — which is why a Stockholm move is booked well ahead, not the same week. Uppsala is 310 kilometres and about three and a half hours. Uppsala also has a low-emission zone in the centre, but no congestion charge, which makes an Uppsala move slightly simpler to price than a Stockholm one despite almost the same distance. Umeå is a little over 260 kilometres north on the E4, effectively a morning's drive. It is the classic student move and job move from here, and it can often be done in a single day if the loading is prepared. The route crosses the High Coast, which matters in winter. Gothenburg is a little over 720 kilometres and more than a full working day of driving on its own. That move is always at least two days, and it is also where a fixed price matters most — hourly billing over that distance is impossible for you to predict.
What decides the price of a long move
A local move is priced on time. A long move is not. Two things decide it here: how much you have, and how far it has to go. Volume is measured in cubic metres and decides whether one van is enough or a bigger one is needed, and how many of us it takes to finish the loading on the agreed day. A two-room flat and a house do not load in the same time even if they are going to the same address. Distance decides driving hours, fuel, charges, and whether the crew has to stay overnight. That is why Sundsvall to Umeå and Sundsvall to Gothenburg are two entirely different calculations, even when the contents are identical. We quote a fixed price. That means the price stands when traffic stops, when loading takes half an hour longer than we thought, and when the lift turns out to be switched off. Hourly billing puts that risk on you; a fixed price puts it on us, which is the right way round on a route where neither of us can predict the traffic. The charges along the way are inside the price. The Sundsvall bridge costs nine kronor for a light van and twenty for a heavy lorry, per crossing. It is small money, but it is our bill and not yours — you should not get an invoice for twenty kronor for a bridge. The same goes for congestion charges, ferry fares and fuel. We send a quote within 24 hours, and before we do we ask the questions that actually change it: floor, lift, distance to the door, and whether anything heavy or fragile needs extra hands.
RUT still applies when the move goes far
Many people assume the RUT deduction disappears the moment a move crosses a county line. It does not. The deduction follows the labour, not the distance. RUT gives you fifty per cent of the labour cost: packing, carrying, loading, unloading, dismantling and reassembly — the part of the job done by people. Vehicle costs, fuel, bridge tolls, ferries and congestion charges are travel costs and do not qualify. On a long move the deductible share is therefore smaller than on a move across town, because the driving weighs more heavily in the total. That is worth knowing before you compare two quotes: a company promising a large RUT figure on a Gothenburg move is either counting something else or counting wrong. The ceiling is 75,000 kronor per person per year, and it is shared with the ROT deduction for renovation work. If there are two adults in the household you have two ceilings, and the deduction can be split between you. If you have had renovation work done earlier in the year, it eats into the same allowance. We handle the deduction for you. You do not have to pay up front and claim it back, and there is nothing extra to declare — we deduct RUT directly on the invoice and claim our share from the Swedish Tax Agency. The quote shows both the gross price and what you actually pay after the deduction, so you can see how much of the move is labour and how much is road. If the Tax Agency were to reject the deduction for any reason, sorting that out is our job, not yours.
Storage and insurance when the dates do not meet
On a long move, moving out and moving in rarely fall on the same day. You hand back a rented flat at the end of the month and get access to the new place two weeks later — or the other way round, the keys exist but the old flat has to be emptied first. Storage is the answer to that, not a van kept waiting. We load everything once, take it into storage, and take it out again when you have access. Belongings are put on pallets and covered, in dry and locked space. You pay for the volume you actually take up and the weeks you need, not for a whole unit you do not fill. If you already know at quoting stage that there may be a gap, tell us — we will load so that whatever you need to reach in the meantime sits at the front rather than at the back. Your belongings are insured while in our care, both on the road and in storage. We are insured with Länsförsäkringar and approved for F-tax. The list we write on loading day is the basis for that: it shows what left the old address and makes any damage straightforward to settle rather than one word against another. Fragile items are marked and packed separately. If you own something worth more than ordinary household goods — an instrument, art, a safe, a collection — mention it while we are pricing. Those items are handled separately and belong in the paperwork before the van is loaded, not explained afterwards.
Winter roads, wind and spring thaw
The E4 north and south is not the same road in February as in July, and a moving van is a tall vehicle with a large side area. That is worth saying plainly rather than pretending a move is weather-proof. In strong gusts, from around 30 metres per second, the Swedish Transport Administration closes both the High Coast Bridge and the Sundsvall Bridge completely. Vehicles like ours are exactly what those closures exist for. For heavy traffic, the detour around the High Coast Bridge is over sixty kilometres, which in practice means a move towards Örnsköldsvik or Umeå will not happen as planned that day. We would rather rebook than gamble. A fixed price should not collapse because a bridge closes either — if weather stops us, that is our cost, and we find a new day with you. Snow is a planning question, not a surprise. In Ångermanland, sixty centimetres of snow has been recorded falling in a single day, and that kind of winter comes round regularly. So we clear the carrying route, lay out mats or cardboard inside the doorway, and allow for carrying taking longer when it is slippery. In spring it is the thaw that decides. Road authorities can temporarily reduce the permitted gross weight, often to four or twelve tonnes, or close a road entirely. It affects gravel roads and private roads — precisely the roads leading to houses in Indal, Liden, Stöde and the villages around Ånge. If you live on a private road, tell us at quoting stage. We check the weight restriction in advance and either bring a smaller van or shuttle the last stretch.

Long-distance moving
The price is driven by volume and distance, not by hours. Our price page shows the ranges we work with for the moving work itself: roughly 2,000–5,000 kronor for a two-room flat and roughly 6,000–15,000 kronor for a house or four rooms and a kitchen. The drive south is added to that. You get a fixed price once we have gone through your belongings, usually within 24 hours.
Umeå is a little over 260 kilometres away, considerably closer than Stockholm, and the move can often be done in a single day. That keeps the driving share of the price down. Volume decides the rest: a student flat and a terraced house end up far apart. We quote a fixed price after an assessment, and RUT is deducted from the labour cost.
Sundsvall to Stockholm is 377 kilometres and a good four hours of pure driving, so that move is normally spread over two days: loading one day, driving and unloading the next. Umeå often fits into one day if the loading is prepared. Gothenburg is always at least two days. We plan around the driving and rest-time rules and unload against your access time.
Yes. We are based at Ortviksvägen 61B in Sundsvall and take jobs across the country — Stockholm, Uppsala, Umeå and Gothenburg are the most common routes from here, but a move to Skåne or inland to Jämtland is just as welcome. If the move crosses the Swedish border, our international moving service applies instead.
Yes. RUT gives you fifty per cent of the labour cost — packing, carrying, loading, unloading and assembly — regardless of how far the move goes. Travel costs such as fuel, bridge tolls and congestion charges do not qualify. The ceiling is 75,000 kronor per person per year and is shared with the ROT deduction. We deduct RUT directly on the invoice.
The Swedish Transport Administration closes the High Coast Bridge and the Sundsvall Bridge in gusts from around 30 metres per second, and a moving van is a wind-sensitive vehicle. The detour for heavy traffic around the High Coast Bridge is over sixty kilometres. We would rather rebook the day than gamble. The fixed price stands — if weather stops us, that is our cost, not yours.
